It isn't right. What do we have to do as an industry to be noticed?
I feel like that little boy waiting at the counter of the corner shop. Pushed around and knocked to the ground. I get to my feet and sing at the top of my lungs, what about me?
Dapper Dan and Punting Marty have announced a $150m survival package for Victoria's sporting, cultural (that's us right?) and tourism organisations. Nice. I read on. $40m for community sport and recreation. $16m for national sporting organisations. $44m for Victorian Racing (surprise), $32.3m for creative agencies and initiatives, $6m to live music, $16.8m for creative industries, $11m for tourism and Puffing Billy and $5.3m for the State Sports Centre and The Cattery (Kardinia Park). On my calculator that adds up to $171.4m, but what's $21.4m between friends?
I'm all for the spending in these areas. They sure need it. They have less ability to fend for themselves. They also have less ability to get the economy back on it's feet. For us? Not one dollar. Not a single cent. It just isn't fair.
