“I don't trust society to protect us, I have no intention of placing my fate in the hands of men whose only qualification is that they managed to con a block of people to vote for them.” Mario Puzo

In 1972, one of the greatest movie makers of all time brought The Godfather to the big screen. Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo hit an international nerve and began a global obsession with 'La Familia'.

The mafia ran all the rackets. Gambling, prostitution, extortion, robbery, bribery, booze, drugs and my personal favourite, protection.

Back in the '90's the HospoVet ran nightclubs. Silvers, Capitol, Redhead, Chevron, Chasers & Warehouse. Drink Cards were crypto currency and D.J.'s became rock stars. They brought the noise. My job, was to bring the boys.

There were bigger boys that ran the security. It was a necessary evil and for the most part, they were good boys. There were a few bad eggs and there were a few companies that ran a classic protection racket.

In those days, the companies used to send guards earlier than required, in greater numbers than required, on higher rates than agreed and for longer than required. The worse part is, they would send unqualified, unlicensed guards and charge you full tote odds.

One night at RedHead we stood up to the crooks. We hired some bigger boys. We fought fire with fire and got on with business.

The Victorian Government lock down requires security. That comes in the form of the Victorian Police Force. They are being rostered in grossly disproportionate numbers and are all earning 'overtime' and 'penalty rates'.

Ronnie Di Stasio had a visit from 6 heavily armed police for having a coffee in his own premises. I have heard other stories of heavy handed bullying tactics. Is it a coincidence that the people speaking up are being targeted?

The members of the police force and the police union have hit the jackpot. They are earning more than ever before. They knocked back the hotel quarantine job and have, therefore, insulated themselves from the Coate enquiry. Luke Cornelius is playing the perfect cameo to DictatorDan's comedic approach to this disaster.

The real irony here, is that the racket is being run by the government and paid for by the tax payer.

“It was a lie but he believed in telling lies to people. Truth telling and medicine just didn't go together except in dire emergencies, if then.” Mario Puzo
